Branding: Creative Spaces National Public Galleries Summit 2023

It was a pleasure to work with Maz McGann from Play Your Part on this project.

The Creative Spaces National Public Galleries Summit brings together artists, gallerists, arts workers, volunteers, sector bodies and government — a wide group who care about shaping creative spaces that promote the art industry.

A modern art gallery with white partition walls displaying various paintings; a few people are seen in the background. Text reads: "Creative Spaces National Public Galleries Summit 2023.
Logo with overlapping text reading "creative spaces," "national public galleries summit 2023" below, and a bar of bright colours (pink, orange, red, maroon, purple, black) at the bottom.
White text on a red background reads "creative spaces" with distorted letters, and "national public galleries summit 2023" aligned to the right.

The Brief

The summit is about creative people connecting, sharing ideas and working together toward shaping creative spaces. The visual identity needed to reflect the purpose of the summit whilst being colourful, stylish and professional.

The Idea

To illustrate the objective of the summit, to bringing creative people together, I created the logo with the words creative spaces drawn so its letters connect with each other. Forming the words using negative space signals that what happens in the spaces, where connections are made, is where the real work of promoting the arts is done.

White text on a purple background reads: "creative spaces" with overlapping and distorted letters, followed by "national public galleries summit 2023" in smaller, plain text below.
A stack of colourful, modern booklets with the top one titled "certi-spaces" and "Programme" on the cover, set against a pink background. The cover features a geometric, black 3D pattern.
A grid of glossy black cubes with the text "creative spaces national public galleries summit 2023" in bold white letters overlaid at the centre.

The colour

Six stakeholder groups, six colours. Artists, arts workers, gallerists, volunteers, sector bodies and government each have their own. Pink, orange and red tie the palette back to RGASA, grounding the summit in its regional context.

What was delivered

We delivered a logo package with all the files needed to roll out the brand, plus a style guide to keep things consistent across event materials. We also designed the event program, pull-up banners, and more.
