Branding: Logos Classical Academies

This project was a particularly meaningful one for me. I homeschooled my own children using a Charlotte Mason / Classical approach, so I understand the world Logos Classical Academies (LCA) is speaking into, the values, the language, and what parents are really looking for when they’re choosing a homeschool education provider.

The brief

LCA came to me needing a brand identity that felt established, trustworthy, and aligned with their mission to provide rich classical/charlotte mason hybrid education service to homeschool families. By partnering with homeschooling families, they provide a micro-school education model shaped by classical learning principles. The brand needed to speak clearly to parents that LCA provides a grounded education system that supports homeschooling families to provide a high quality education for their children.

The goal

Create a branding identity that would help LCA:

  • look credible and professional from day one
  • feel aligned with classical education (timeless, structured, purposeful)
  • communicate clarity and confidence to families considering enrolment
  • stay consistent across all touchpoints as the programme grows

The design approach

For education brands serving families, branding needs to:

  1. feel calm and trustworthy
  2. communicate meaning and structure

Because I’ve been on the homeschooling side of the conversation, I knew the identity needed to feel:

  • reassuring, not pushy
  • academically solid,
  • warm and human, not institutional

So the logo was designed to be symbol-rich, balanced, and usable, working across print, digital, documents, merchandise, and signage.

A shield-shaped emblem featuring three overlapping shields, a cross, rays of light, an open book, three lines forming a capital, and a classical column, with labels pointing to each symbolic element.

The logo concept

The primary mark is built around a classical shield which is a visual cue for tradition, strength, and protection. The shield is paired with key elements that communicate LCA’s educational model.

1. Three overlaying shields

Represent the partnership at the heart of the programme:

  • the academy
  • the homeschooling parents
  • the students

2. Three lines forming the capital

A visual nod to three educational influences shaping the programme:

  • Dorothy Sayer’s approach to the Classical Trivium
  • Charlotte Mason’s emphasis on ‘living books’ and delight in God’s created world. A literature-rich approach
  • Susan Bauer’s cyclical approach to the history of the world

3. A classical column

A symbol of structure and formation, representing the three curriculum pillars:

  • history as a foundational lens
  • deep skills in the humanities
  • broad understanding in the sciences

4. Rays of light + open book

  • The rays of light  surrounding the cross and the open book/bible, represent the spiritual truths that are at the foundation of the program, illuminating understanding and bringing life.
  • The open book/bible is lifted up by the curriculum and classical approaches (column and capital) as it is held in high esteem by the LCA

The mark was intentionally designed to feel traditional but not old-fashioned.

Two young girls stand closely together in a grassy field at sunset, reading a book. Both wear boots and dresses, and one dress has unicorn prints. Text reads, "For the Love of God’s Glory" with a crest symbol beside it.

What LCA received

To make sure the brand could be used confidently and consistently, the project included:

  • a complete logo package – all key file types and lockups
  • a style guide covering logo usage, colour, typography and layout direction
  • print-ready files for smooth rollout across stationery and promotional material

Why this matters

A logo can get you started, but a full branding package helps you show up consistently, build recognition, and avoid that slow “patchwork branding” drift that happens over time.

If you’re a school, educator, or education-led business and your branding feels inconsistent or unclear, I can help you create a visual identity that feels clear and  professional, with the practical assets to actually use it.
