Our Wayward Girl has become an award winner!

I was thrilled to discover that the ‘Wayward Girl’ label I created for Fernfield Wines had been entered into the 2023 Pack Wine Awards. I was even more excited to learn that it had won ‘Best Classic Format Package Design’!

Each vintage, Fernfield Wines ask a different artist to create the ‘Wayward Girl’ for their label. I was honoured to be asked to create the image for the 2018 vintage. The brief was to create a design that would catch the eye of prospective customers, while telling the story of the Wayward Girl. The label needed to capture the elegance and sophistication of the Fernfield Wines brand, with limited embellishments employed, as the design would only be used for the 2018 vintage.

To meet this brief, I painted a beautiful ‘Wayward Girl’ and included Fernfield Wines’ fern imagery and vine leaves using a sepia tone to reflect the history of the Rushlea Homestead, now used as the Fernfield Wines cellar door. I then used this painting, which now hangs in the cottage, as the label’s feature, highlighting delicate details such as the flower in the girl’s hair and fern imagery with hi-build gloss varnish.

The name was stamped in gold foil, specifically designed to be used for future vintages. The result was a soft and inviting design, pleasing to the eye and, I’m told, a popular choice of visitors as a souvenir of their visit.

'We are thrilled with the final product, as the stunning design has been a huge success at our cellar door. It has successfully captured the attention of new customers, thanks to its eye-catching design, which has become the most talked-about label in our range.'
